A glimpse of Alaz

In Turkish mythology, Alaz is the god of fire, often depicted in a dress made of flames, holding a flaming torch.

According to legend, Alaz has power over fire, hearths, and stoves. So, as you watch your food being cooked over hot charcoals in the restaurant, you might just catch a glimpse of Alaz.

From Dickens to dining

We’re based in a beautiful grade II listed timber-framed building in the wonderful town of Sudbury in Suffolk.

Originally built for a wealthy merchant in 1540, the well-known landmark has been a key feature of Sudbury life for centuries, whether as the Olde Bull Inn, a brewing house for Mauldons Brewery, or because Charles Dickens once stayed here.

Today, the original main door Dickens walked through all those years ago is still in place – as are the oak beams.

The Alaz experience

Once inside, you’ll enjoy what The Suffolk News described as “the opulence of the Ottoman Empire”.

From table runners and lighting to the ambient music and presentation of your meal, every detail has been hand-picked by owners Sue and Cengiz.

The result is a unique experience that blends Turkish tradition with English heritage. In other words, a dining experience full of Instagram moments.
